Arsenal emerged victorious in the Community Shield shootout against Manchester City on Saturday, with Fabio Vieira scoring the decisive penalty after Leandro Trossard's late equalizer forced the match into extra time.
The Gunners dominated possession and created the better chances throughout the match, but found themselves behind after Julian Alvarez opened the scoring for City in the 33rd minute. Trossard leveled the scores in the 89th minute to send the match into extra time, where neither side could find a winner.
In the penalty shootout, Arsenal converted all four of their spot-kicks through Gabriel Jesus, Bukayo Saka, Gabriel Martinelli, and Vieira. City only managed to score once, with Erling Haaland's effort being saved by Arsenal goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale.
The win marks Arsenal's first Community Shield triumph since 2017 and is a positive sign ahead of the new Premier League season, which begins next week.
