Report Reveals Years of Drug Abuse Ravaged Singer's Body

LAPD Officials Rushed to Close Case

Los Angeles, CA (CBS) - The Los Angeles County Coroner has released the official autopsy report for Whitney Houston, revealing the tragic extent of the singer's drug abuse. The report indicates that Houston's body was ravaged by years of substance misuse, contributing to her untimely death in February. The report discloses that Houston's death was caused by drowning "complicating atherosclerotic heart disease and cocaine use." Her body exhibited evidence of chronic cocaine use, including hypertensive and atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease, as well as pulmonary edema (fluid in the lungs). According to the report, Houston's death was ruled an accident, but it underscores the devastating consequences of drug abuse. The autopsy has also raised questions about the Los Angeles Police Department's handling of the case, as officials reportedly rushed to close the investigation.
